The Ultimate Collection Of Biscuit Recipes

See all 17 photos

My Grandmother Hattie Propst and her daughter my mother Virginia Walker were both blue ribbon biscuit cooks. My Grandmother Hattie Propst has sadly passed away but my mother Virginia Walker is still with us and yes from time to time she still makes her blue ribbon award winning biscuits.

And over the years I have tried to become a great biscuit cook also and it has been a long journey to get to the point where I was happy with the biscuits I produced. And at the same time I was trying to come up with a collection of really great biscuit recipes that anyone could use to produce great tasting biscuits. And that is what you will find here on this page is the ultimate collection of biscuit recipes that anyone can follow along and make the best biscuits you will ever taste.

And be sure to post a comment below and let us know what you think about the great recipes for biscuits on this page.

Baking Powder Biscuits Recipe

Here is the recipe that a lot of men remember Mom making way back when. I have taken this recipe and changed it around to the point where I think anyone can reproduce the same great biscuits I did with this recipe.

Your Ingredients You Will Need For This Baking Powder Biscuits Recipe Are

1. 2 Cups of Sifted Plain All Purpose Flour

2. 2 Teaspoons Baking Powder

3. 4 Tablespoons Real Butter at Room Tempurture

4. 1 Teaspoon Table Salt

5. 3/4 Cup of Whole Milk

You want to sift your flour with a hand sifter once into a bowl. And then add your baking powder and salt to the flour and sift again. Use your hands to cut your butter into the flour. Be sure that the butter is very well mixed into the flour. Add your milk gradually until soft dough is formed. Turn your dough out onto a floured surface and roll the dough out to 1/2 inch thick. Cut your biscuits out with a 2 inch floured biscuit cutter or a small glass.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and make sure it is thoroughly preheated before you bake your biscuits for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Please be sure to not over work your dough. Try to basically follow along with my instructions and you will have great baking powder biscuits.

You can if you wish make those tiny tea biscuits with a 1 inch biscuit cutter and fill them with country ham for a party or special event. They are also wonderful served with honey, butter, and jam or jelly.

3. 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda

4. 2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil

5. 1 Cup Of Buttermilk

Cut your biscuits out with a 2 inch biscuit cutter and place onto your baking pan or sheet. Bake your biscuits in a preheated 425 degree oven and be sure your oven is preheated before you bake your biscuits to golden brown.

I guarantee you that you have just created the easiest and most delicious buttermilk biscuits you will ever taste. Again if at all possible use Dukes Mayonnaise in your biscuit recipe.

And anytime you make biscuits remember you are better off to under work your biscuits than you are to over work them.

Cheddar Cheese Biscuit Recipe

I simply love these biscuits with grilled steaks or seafood. Try them and I think you will agree that they are both delicious and oh so easy to make. These are drop biscuits so they are the easiest of the three biscuits to make.

For Your Cheddar Cheese Biscuit Recipe You Need

1. 2 Cups of Bisquick Biscuit Mix

2. 2/3 Cup of Whole Milk

3. 1/2 Cup Fine Shredded Cheddar Cheese

4. 1/4 Cup Real Butter Melted

5. 1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees.

Mix your Bisquick, Whole Milk and Cheese until thoroughly mixed and a soft dough forms. Drop your dough by the heaping tablespoonful onto a un greased baking sheet or biscuit pan. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Mix your garlic powder and butter together and use a pastry brush or paper towel to spread the butter garlic mixture over the baked hot biscuits.

Biscuits are fun. Love hot, fresh, homemade biscuits with creamy sausage gravy. Now, I'm getting hungry.

Hey, maybe we should try deep fried biscuits for the Texas State Fair! I'm going to go add it to my list.

I just made your buttermilk biscuit recipe this morning, and I'm happy to report it came out wonderfully!

With some scratch-made sausage gravy poured over top, these biscuits made a tasty meal. I added some orange marmelade to a couple for dessert - yum! Thank you for the recipe!

Hi. Thanks for the recipes! I have been making the cheddar biscuits for years, and they are awesome; very similar to Red Lobster's biscuits. If you don't overwork the dough they will melt in your mouth!

Nonie 19 months ago

Your biscuits look lovely and I will try some of them ,but, the best biscuits I ever made, and I have tried lots in my 74 yrs, were from the recipe on the old Blue Ribbon Baking Powder Can, would you happen to have that recipe and if you have could you post that one too ?

dundundun 17 months ago

imatellmuva 16 months ago

I made the cheddar Cheese biscuits yesterday, and they were awesome. The batch yielded 15 small biscuits, and I have only (2) left. I'm making more tomorrow. I did add just a dash of garlic powder to the mix though...I love garlic. Thanks for the recipe. I will continue to make biscuits this way for years to come.

I really liked the recipes. Also i want to start my own biscuit company in india, if so would you be able to share your knowledge to me. I need to varieties of biscuit recipes since i am initially planning to start a medium scale industry with a selling outlet.

Hoping to hear from you soon positively.

imatellmuva 15 months ago

okay crazyhorsesghost....I'm back, and still making biscuits. I did the cheddar cheese again, but added buttermilk this time...whoooo chile'! Thank you so much for sharing these recipes. I'm not much of a recipe person, a good cook though. It's just that my Mother and Grandmother cooked and baked without recipes, or measurements...they could eyeball everything, and meals, and baked goods always came out perfect.

GOING TO TRY THE RECIPE TONIGHT WITH MY HOMEMADE TURKEY SOUP. THANKS!

odiekarone 7 months ago

I make a garlic-cheese type biscuit that my kids love. You just make biscuits using self-rising flour, shortening, and about a big tablespoon of garlic. I use the kind in the little glass jar at the store. After cutting the shortening into the flour, add the garlic and enough evaporated milk to make the mixture soft, but not "wet". Then I hand knead and roll the biscuits into a ball and flatten them out, dip them into a bowl with melted real butter on both sides, then dip them into a separate bowl containing Parmesan cheese until fully coated on both sides. Then I put them on a baking sheet in a pre-heated (400*) oven and bake until golden brown. Usually takes about 20 minutes. YUMMY!! :) **Warning** They CAN be addicting!! LOL!!

I am from Canada...and I want to try the buttermilk recipe, but we do not have Duke's Mayonnaise available here. Can I substitute something?? Regular mayo??

crazyhorsesghost 6 months ago

Dukes is my favorite but you can use any mayonnaise.

vivi 6 months ago

I tried this recipe, but they didn't rise. My baking powder is expired, i used pastry flour and used 2/3 2% milk and 1/3 heavy cream (didn't have whole milk). I really thought it would work. :(

crazyhorsesghost 6 months ago

You always want to purchase fresh baking powder or baking soda. I have made this mistake myself many times.

Lynn 5 months ago

The biscuits were o.k. Thet didn't rise very much but were good tasting.

Margaret 5 months ago

I always use your baking powder biscuit recipe. :) Although, I do substitute milk with heavy cream. They always turn out amazing!

Katie 4 months ago

!!!!!!!!!!!THEY TURNED OUT AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

R Hall 2 months ago

Well, good buscuits. Made them twice now, just made them with my son. I love the plain biscuits. Anything else in a biscuit just ruins it for me!
