The Nine Things You Need To Have In Your Tackle Box

Every time you go fishing you need to carefully pack your tackle box so that your fishing can be so much easier and more enjoyable. Going fishing prepared will let you have an enjoyable fishing trip and if you take the time to pack your tackle box carefully you'll have a much better time on your next fishing trip.

1. The number one thing you need to have in your tackle box is a pair of needle nose pliers so that you can get the hooks out of your fish easier and you if an accident happens. You want the kind of needle nose pliers that have the cutters built into them so that you can cut a fish hook in half in case you need to. Each time you go fishing and use your needle nose pliers wash them off well when you come home and spray them down with WD40 before you return them to your tackle box. This will prevent rust and will keep them ready to use.

2. Keep a spare roll of toilet paper either in your tackle box or in your boat or truck. You just never know when you may run into an emergency situation where you need that roll of toilet paper. You may even want to keep several extra rolls around but keep them in a sealed zip lock bag to keep the toilet paper dry until you need it. You can use it for bathroom purposes or you can tear off some toilet paper and use it to start a fire.

3. You need a good all purpose knife with several blades or keep one knife with several blades and a fish filet knife that you can use to clean your fish with. Look around and you can find a multi-purpose knife that can be used to scale fish with. You may also want to purchase a fish cleaning board that has a strong clip at one end for holding a fish while you clean it.

4. You will want to have a regular flat file and a small round stick file so that you can sharpen hooks or sharpen your knife. You need to buy a canvas bags to keep your files in. You may want to add a whetstone for sharpening knifes to your small canvas bag and then you'll be prepared for anything you may need to sharpen.

5. You will want to have a bottle or tube of a good quality sun screen to use to keep from getting sun burn on your face and arms. This is one thing that a lot of people often forget to pack. So be sure to have a good quality sun screen in your tackle box.

6. You will want to have a small bottle of aspirin or Tylenol in your tackle box in case you have a headache. You may also want to pack any other cross the counter medications that you may need in the tackle box. Be sure to keep any medications in zip lock bags to keep them clean and odor free.

7. You should keep a couple of different sizes of finger nail clippers in your tackle box to cut line with or your fingernails if you need to.

8. You should keep a box of matches and a cigarette lighter in a zip lock bag to make sure you can start a fire in an emergency.

9. Keep a cheap digital camera with a memory card and good quality batteries in a zip lock bag in case you do catch that big bass or catfish and want to take a few pictures. You may also want to keep a small tape measurer so that you can measure your fish to make sure they are legal or hopefully some day measure that world record fish.

If you keep those items in your tackle box you will have a lot more fun on your fishing trips. And your fishing trips will be a lot more fun because you'll have the tools you need to make your fishing easier and a lot more fun. You may also want to keep a small notebook and a pen in a zip lock bag so that you can make notes about your fishing. How many fish you caught and what kind of bait you were using. This way you can look back and see what bait you need or exactly where you caught all those bluegill last summer.

You may also want to consider taking a couple of thermometers with you on your fishing trip and a barometer. You should have one thermometer on a cord so you can take water temperatures easily and one to measure the air temperature. It will also be to your advantage to take a barometer with you on your fishing trip. If you find yourself having a successful fishing trip take careful notes of the weather conditions including the water temperature and the air temperature. You should also take a barometer reading and write it down. This way you'll see a pattern develop over time and you'll know exactly when the fish are going to bite.

You may want to keep a couple of rolls of paper towels, a box of trash bags, and a large box of zip lock bags in your boat or in the vehicle you take fishing with you. You may also want to have a disposable rain poncho or two so you can stay dry in the case of sudden rain. If you're traveling to more remote areas or feel you may need to start a fire in a hurry you may want to pack three or four of the instant lite fire logs in your boat or vehicle you take fishing with you so that you can get a fire going in a hurry if you really need to. You'll also want to make sure you have a small and a large flashlight in case you need them in a hurry or in an emergency.
