Pulled Pork Recipes
Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Recipe
Pulled Pork Recipes
In the United States and especially in the American south pulled pork is most commonly slow cooked either by smoking, cooking in an oven, or in a slow cooker. Many people have a really strong ideal of how their pulled pork should be made and most people especially southerners enjoy pulled pork sandwiches.
A lot of people say that the pulled pork must be served on sesame seed buns with red barbecue slaw while people in some regions want regular white slaw with their pulled pork barbecue. Do you know why it's called pulled pork. The reason it's called pulled pork is because the pork shoulder or Boston butt is cooked at a low temperature for an extended period of time and it quite literally cooks to the point to where it can be easily pulled apart into very small pieces that are perfect for pulled pork sandwiches.
Some people in the American south want their pork shoulders or pork butts cooked slow and basted with a Carolina Peppery Vinegar Sauce or a Cider Vinegar Barbecue Sauce. Below are authentic recipes for both.
Carolina Peppery Vinegar Sauce
1. One Quart Apple Cider Vinegar.
2. One Tablespoon Dried Crushed Red Pepper.
3. One Tablespoon Salt.
4. One Teaspoon Black Pepper.
Mix your ingredients together and put some into a squirt bottle so you can squirt it onto the pork shoulder or pork butt while its cooking. You can put some of the sauce into a squirt bottle and serve it on the table so people can squirt some of the sauce onto their sandwich.
Spicy Mustard Barbecue Sauce
1. One And One Half Cups Ketchup.
2. One Half Cup Apple Cider.
3. One Half Cup Light Corn Syrup.
4. One Half Cup Yellow Mustard.
5. One Third Cup Worcestershire Sauce.
6. One Tablespoon Ground Sea Salt.
7. Two Teaspoons Garlic Powder.
8. One Teaspoon Cinnamon.
9. One Teaspoon Celery Seed.
10. One Teaspoon Black Pepper.
11. One Teaspoon Crushed red Pepper.
Put all the ingredients on in a saucepan and cook thoroughly until the sauce reduces some and begins to thicken. This is the barbecue sauce that goes in the below slaw recipe for North Carolina Style Barbecue Slaw.

At most of the Barbecue places in North Carolina the Barbecue Restaurants often offer pulled pork sandwiches, barbecue slaw, french fries, and hush puppies. Some places offer other things like Brunswick Stew, Barbecued Ribs, and Barbecued Chicken. Some offer things like homemade pies, cakes and brownies. You can use these recipes and make your own pulled pork sandwiches and everything to go with them.
Cooking A Pork Butt On A Charcoal Grill.
If you want to cook a pork butt on a charcoal grill you'll need to cook it over indirect heat which means you'll have the charcoal fire on one side of the grill and your fire on the other side. You'll want to soak wood like applewood chips overnight so you can lay a few at a time on your charcoal coals to flavor your pulled pork as it cooks. You can make the first Carolina Vinegar Pepper Sauce and inject it into your pork butt with a marinade needle and you can also squirt some on the pork butt while it cooks.
Keep Your Charcoal Fire Low For Best Results.
It's very important to keep the fire quite low and cook your pork butt for a very long time ( 8 to 10 hours ) so it will be so tender that it's falling apart. You then put it on the counter and pull it apart and mix it with the second barbecue sauce and there you'll have the perfect pulled pork. I really believe that my way of doing it is the best and once you make it and taste it I bet you will to. If you do it just like I've told you here I don't think you'll get a better flavor anywhere. Just be sure to keep your fire very low and keep squirting some of the first barbecue sauce on the pork butt while it's cooking for the best flavor.
Be Sure To Chill Your Barbecue Slaw Overnight.
When you make your barbecue slaw be sure to make it and chill it in the refrigerator at least overnight before you use it. This is one of the most important details of making the perfect pulled pork sandwich. That and making sure that you use buns with sesame seeds on them. Your buns need to be steamed just before you put your sandwiches together.
I buy a few apple wood logs every year and cut them up into small pieces so I can soak the wood in water over night and add it on top of my charcoal to give my pulled pork that extra special taste that makes it oh so good.
Keeping that fire low while your cooking your pork butt is important to. But keep some lite charcoal in a metal can so you can add more to your grill when you need to. You don't want your charcoal fire to go out while the pork butt is cooking.
I really do think I make the best pulled pork sandwiches in the world and if you have any questions feel free to ask them in the comment section below. I hope there is pulled pork in your future real soon. Once you ever make it one time you'll make it again and again. It really is that good. I think the way I do it is the best in the world.

Crock Pot Or Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
You can use a crock pot or slow cooker and make delicious pulled pork that I bet you and your family will love. You'll want a 4-5 pound pork butt and you'll want to put it on in a large crock pot or slow cooker with two cups of water and you can sprinkle the pork butt with salt and water.
Start off by turning the crock pot or slow cooker to high with the lid on tight. Resist the urge to keep peeking in at your pork butt and let it cook for at least six hours before you check it. In most slow cookers or crock pots it's going to take 6 - 8 hours to cook tender so you can take it out of the crock pot or slow cooker and pull it apart into very small shredded pieces. Wash the crock pot and then put the meat back into the cooker. Add a cup of the Spicy Mustard Barbecue Sauce above into the cooker and stir it up well to coat the pulled pork well. Some people may want to add more barbecue sauce.
You'll want to make the barbecue slaw above and chill it so you'll have it to go on your pulled pork sandwiches and be sure to chill the slaw well before you put it onto your sandwiches.
Some people I've give this slow cooker pulled pork to have really been surprised that it was cooked in a crock pot. Just don't add to much water when you start it cooking and it will turn out perfect. When you pull it apart before adding it back to the cooker you'll want to discard any large pieces of fat. And be sure to add enough of the barbecue sauce to coat your pulled pork well.
I hope that if you make the pulled pork in the slow cooker or crock pot that you'll post a comment below and let us all know how it turns out for you. I make it this way quite often and everyone that try's it says its some of the best pulled pork barbecue that they have ever tasted. And with the chilled barbecue slaw I think it is to. Try it and let me know what you think.
