September 11th 2001 Was One Of The Worst Days In American History
You know as I set and watch the developing news story about the C.I.A.'s potentially illegal activities pertaining to the C.I.A.'s Counter-terrorism program makes me want to puke. And when I listen to all the talking heads on CNN talk about all the bad things we did to Khalid Sheik Mohamed and others who we had luckily captured I want to grab them and shake them and ask them where were they on the morning of September 11th 2001 when those planes were striking the buildings in New York City and the Pentagon. And what about those brave souls who went down fighting in a field in Pennsylvania.
I tell you what I don't care how many times they simulated drowning on Khalid Sheik Mohamed. I don't care if they fed him a steady diet of pork sandwiches and threatened his mother and children. Think about those people trapped in the Twin Towers on 9-11 2001. Think about those brave firemen who were trying to rescue their fellow Americans when the buildings collapsed.
Think about the wife's who saw their husbands go to work that morning never to see them again. Think about the husbands who never saw their wife's again. And yes I set there that morning and saw the planes hit those buildings and I was mad as hell and I'm still mad as hell. I will never think its wrong to trick or even torture terrorist who threaten American's. Or for that matter freedom loving people from any nation. But especially Americans. My blood runs red, white and blue. And any American who doesn't agree or wants to play politically correct games I say kiss me where the Good Lord split me. Hell go over there and live in Afghanistan with the Taliban.
I as an American am proud to say that I support doing any and everything possible to keep all American's safe from attack. Tricking a terrorist by making him think his friend next door is being executed is doing any and everything possible to keep America safe. I say water board them or what ever is necessary to make them talk.The Muslim extremists want to destroy the USA and Israel and your not going to play nice and make friends with them. Being politically correct is being politically stupid. Look at the photos from that September morning, watch the videos and think about it my fellow Americans have they attacked us again since 9-11 on American soil.
What were you doing on that September morning and how could any American in their right mind not want them to do any thing possible to make the terrorist give up the information we need to keep America Safe. I want to thank each and every one of the American CIA interrogators who got the needed information out of the terrorists.
Never forget September 11th 2001 happened and we have to do everything possible to make sure it never happens again.

I agree that no effort should be spared in finding out who specifically is responsible for 9/11. Terrorists do not play by the rules. They make their own.
I think my main problem with techniques like waterboarding is this: Are they any more effective than other methods?
If we're not going to get credible information out of the terrorist suspect no matter what we do, we have 2 choices.
We can continue doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome (the definition of insanity). Or we can hold ourselves to a higher standard of conduct. The US has always prided itself on not stooping to the level of our enemies.
I realize you and many others continue to be outraged and want revenge. I'm just not convinced myself that engaging in questionable conduct like torture is worth it.

And its well and good that we as Americans should hold our self to a higher standard of contact but if we don't come down or go down to their level we will eventually have Suicide Bombers on American streets. I'm really surprised that it has not happened already. It will most certainly happen if we let down our guard.
I have walked on the streets of Jerusalem and saw buses full of people hit by suicide bombers. I have watched from roof tops as Arab mothers and children danced in the street and begged for the blood of Israels and Americans. Their are many Muslim Extremists who will never be happy as long as there is a Israel or an America. We can just play nice and they will eventually come around to our way of thinking. It just will never happen. I really wish it would but I know for a fact that it never will. If they could they would launch a nuclear or biological device on New York tomorrow. So no we can't play fair. Not with people who want to do only one thing at any cost and that is the total and absolute destruction of Israel and America.
This is not over for the US. Efforts need to be going to Strengthing our own Spirituality, rather than wasting it on hatred. There is more coming and at this time, we are not prepared to defend ourselves. The few of us who are of greater Spirituality will not be allowed to Cover you all. Things are not always as they appear. If you cannot win the Spiritual War, you will definitely loss the physical war.

The problem with torture is not what it is doing to the iraqi and afgani people but what it is doing to our soldiers who are not used to using these methods. by watching these things happen their brains go into a state of shock and awe which later developes into ptsd, mpd, anxiety, and panic disorders. by restraining from these practices we are protecting the livelyhood of those who are protecting us.
We shouldn't torture. Why? Because we are better than those savages. The argument that we should torture because they would do it is silly... that is an argument AGAINST torture, not for it. America should set the example. Enjoying torture because it makes you feel revenge is NOT even close to being a principle on which this country was founded. The Founding Fathers were not vengeful... they believed in the rule of law.
I hate terrorists too... but I would still make sure they have a lawyer and get a fair trial. That is why this country is better than where they come from. I admit it's less fun to enjoy that than it would be to watch these guys suffer, but this is not about perverse pleasure... it's about setting an example for the world.
Don't expect that will change any minds on this board, but one can always hope.

Ok don't torture them or trick them in any way. And then when there is radiation spread over most of a large American city then what? Because a dirty bomb is probably in our immediate future.

Sarmack I agree. There is more coming. I don't believe for a minute that the Muslim Extremists are through. They will attack us again. Just where and when is the question.
What we need to do is send those idiots back to the same stone age the west dragged them out of. let them go back to being aborigines and neanderthals, take away any and all technology, unless it was invented by one of their own. See how well they live on their beliefs. Give it a couple generations, which for them will be very short, and they will have forgotten anything worthwhile since they don't believe in a proper education or wont have a television. It wouldn't be long before they either died out because of the lack of outside aid or, big "or" here, they evolved and figured things out on their own. NO torture or wrong doing on our part! We'll just be giving them exactly what they wanted in the first place. Great Hub!
