What Is Your Favorite Kind Of Brownies?
Who First Made Brownies?
The first recipes for brownies like we make today first appeared in cook books in America around 1904. Their were earlier recipes that were named brownies but they were not like our current brownies. They were made out of molasses made in a small flat pan and really were molasses cookies.
Did you know that there are three myths about the creation of brownies. The first one is that a cook was making biscuits and accidentally added chocolate to the mix and came up with brownies. The second one is that in about 1907 a cook in a restaurant in Chicago tried coming up with a new desert and that brownies was the result. The third one is that a Denver Colarado housewife didn't have baking soda and that she created the first chewy fudge like brownies. Where ever brownies came from they are delicious.
In case you're wondering the most popular brownie are chewy fudge like brownies with nut in them. The brownie recipe on this Hub Page makes brownies just like those wonderful brownies.
A Tip About Nuts
Shake your nuts in a tablespoon of flour when you are going to put them in your brownie mix and they will stay in the brownie mix and not sink to the bottom of the mix.
Nut Safety
If someone in your household is allergic to nuts you shouldn't use nuts in any cooking in your house. Cross contamination can and does often happen. So don't cook with nuts around someone who is allergic to them.
Is Your Oven Telling You The Truth?
Quite often home ovens don't cook at the temperature on the dial. Many are as much as 50 degrees above or below the temperature they are supposed to be. So purchase an oven thermometer that hangs inside your home oven. You can then look into the oven and check the thermometer for the ovens true temperature.
Quality Of Ingredients
I always bake brownies and other baked goods with the best possible ingredients. I usually go with name brand items because I've discovered that those items do produce the best baked goods.
Baking Pans For Brownies
While almost any baking pan that is at least one inch deep will work for brownies I like to cook brownies in the new pans that produce individual brownies. If you use these special brownie pans they will last a long time. Possibly even for generations. Just be sure to take care of your pan and don't allow it to rust. I usually wash my pans clean and then spray them down with vegetable cooking spray before I store them. If you'll do this with your pans they will always be ready for use.
Tricks With Brownies
You can always purchase mini peanut butter cups and insert one into each brownie when you get ready to cook your brownies. You'll end up with a delicious brownie that everyone will love.
Or you can cut mini candy bars up in small pieces and insert them into your brownies. You'll find that brownies made this way are oh so delicious.

I like this brownie the way it turns out when you make it by the recipe. You can if you wish put a fudge or chocolate icing on your brownies. That's entirely up to you. I make them sometimes with the icing and sometimes without.
One Note Here On Real Butter.
Where this recipe calls for real butter be sure that you purchase real butter and not margarine. It does and will make a real difference in the recipe and in the taste of the brownie. So be sure that you go with the real butter.
For Your Recipe You Will Need.
1. 1 Pound Of Real Butter.
2. 1 Pound of Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips plus 2 level cups of Sf Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips Divided in half.
3. 6 Ounces of Unsweetened Regular Chocolate. ( Not Dark Chocolate ).
4. 6 Large Eggs.
5. 4 Tablespoons Folgers Instant Coffee. ( Yes only Folgers ).
6. 2 Tablespoons of Vanilla Extract. , Again No Imitation, Only The Real Thing.
7. 2 1/2 Cups of White Granulated Sugar.
8. 1 and 1/4 Cup of Plain All Purpose Flour Divided.
9. 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder.
10. 1 Teaspoon Sea Salt.
11. 3 Cups of Fine Diced Pecans.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and you want to spray a 13" X9" X 1/2 Inch Deep Baking Pan with Pam.
Be sure to use only Folgers Instant Coffee in this recipe as it really does add to the flavor of the brownies and other instant coffees just don't have the same flavor.
Now you will want to mix together your butter, 1/2 the chocolate chips, and unsweetened chocolate in the top of a double broiler. Allow it to cool slightly and now you will want to stir together your eggs, coffee, vanilla and sugar. Now stir in your warm chocolate mixture and allow to cool to room temperature.
Stir together half the flour, baking powder and salt. Add this to the cooled chocolate mixture and stir together well. Toss the pecans and rest of the chocolate chips with the remaining flour so it coats them and stir into your chocolate mixture. By coating them with the flour it will keep them up in the batter and they will not all go the bottom of the pan.
Pour your brownie mix into the pan that you sprayed heavily with Pam vegetable cooking spray. Bake in the 350 degree preheated oven for 30 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Half way through cooking the brownies rap the pan hard on the side of the oven to allow any trapped air in the batter to escape and you will have a much better brownie. Doing this step really does make a better brownie.
Do not over bake these brownies. Again do not over bake these brownies. Refrigerate the whole pan for 4 hours minimum and then cut your brownies up in small squares and wrap with plastic wrap using just enough plastic wrap to wrap each brownie.
This is a chewy delicious brownie made by the directions. This is one of my favorite brownies ever.
