Herbal Plant Remedies : Herbs: Rosemary for Stress

Rosemary

Rosemary is a member of the mint family. You'll find rosemary used as a decorative plant and it's also used for many medicinal and and culinary uses. In the American south all you have to do once you get your rosemary growing is mulch it heavily in the late fall with straw mulch and it will make it through the winter just fine. If you need fresh rosemary during the winter just uncover some and harvest. Remove the straw mulch in the spring and the plant will take off growing again. You will find that rosemary likes full sun and you need to allow it plenty of room to grow.

Rosemary Is A Great Natural Home Remedy.

Rosemary is a fragrant great smelling herb with pine like needles and pink, white, or blue flowers. Rosemary is an evergreen small shrub that is used for many culinary and medicinal purposes. Rosemary is one of the most important plants when it comes to natural home remedies. Rosemary is native to Asia and the Mediterranean but it can be grown almost anywhere in the world. It grows very well in the American south. Rosemary has the unique ability to grow and live with very little water. When it is given regular water and it is planted in good soil it will grow into quite large plants. In olden times brides wore wreaths of rosemary for good luck and to ward off evil spirits.

When your Rosemary is grown and you are ready to harvest it you want to hang it up and dry it. When your plants start putting on flowers cut the top third of your plants off and dry what you cut off. It is the leaves that have the flavor and they are used for culinary and medicinal uses.

Rosemary is very drought resistant and it is very easy to grow. I like to grow it in small pots and I give it away as gifts. Rosemary is very pest resistant. I have never found any insect pest feeding on it. Don't over water it. You can propagate it by cutting sprigs of it off about 6-8 inches long and strip the leaves off the bottom part and stick it in soil. The cutting will root and you'll have a new rosemary plant.

Medicinal Uses Of Rosemary

Rosemary has many medicinal uses. Never use any pesticides on any plant or herb that you plan to use for medicinal or culinary uses. Recent studies have shown that carnosic acid that is found in rosemary may shield the brain from free radicals.

it is believed that tea made from rosemary may help to prevent memory loss, slow down the advances of Alzheimer's and stop a stroke from happening. Rosemary also has great anti inflammatory properties. Carnosol found in the rosemary plant may be very helpful in the prevention of cancer. Studies have shown that rosemary can greatly improve peoples memory and may even help to bring back loss memories.

Rosemary contains carnosic acid and rosmarinic acid which have strong antioxidant properties. Camphor makes up up to 20 percent of dried rosemary leaves.

For many years in Europe men with gout have been given a mixture of lemon thyme and rosemary tea to help relieve the symptoms of the gout. You can boil rosemary and lemon thyme in a large pot and pour it out into a foot tub and only add enough cool water to allow you to leave your feet in the water for five minutes at a time. Soak your feet as long as you can and the symptoms of gout will improve.

Avoid using rosemary if your pregnant or breast feeding. Some people can have a skin reaction to rosemary so keep that in mind.

Healthy Healing - Pt. 8: Rosemary

Natural Home Remedies , Rosemary

Rosemary Is Good For Memory Loss.

The ancient Greeks and Romans used rosemary for many things including depression, anxiety, and indigestion. The Greeks were always drinking rosemary tea because they believed very strongly that rosemary was great for memory loss and dementia. Recent studies at Duke University in North Carolina have revealed that the essential oils found in rosemary may slow down or stop the progression of Alzheimer's. For thousands of years people have said that rosemary can improve your memory and memory loss so quite possibly this will be a valuable discovery.

Be Sure Not To Let Your Rosemary Tea Boil.

I've always found it amazing at what herbs can be used for and the wonderful medicinal properties of herbs like rosemary. Let me caution you here that when you make rosemary tea let it almost boil but not quite and then set it off the heat. Put a teaspoon of honey in the bottom of a glass and after the rosemary tea has set and steeped for fifteen minutes pour your glass full of the strained rosemary tea and then stir well to make sure your honey gets mixed up into the rosemary tea. Never let your rosemary tea boil and steam or you will lose a lot of the beneficial ingredients in your rosemary. This is very important. .

Rosemary Tea Is Good For Flu, Cold, Headaches, And Fatigue.

Rosemary as a warm tea is good for the flu, colds, headache, and fatigue. Again let me caution you never to let your rosemary tea boil or you will lose many of its essential oils and ingredients. Let it come almost to a boil and then remove it from the heat and allow it to steep. If you do it this way the best ingredients that you need to help you will be left in the rosemary tea and you'll get the benefits when you drink it.

The ancient Greeks made a foot scrub by adding a packed cup of rosemary leaves to a gallon of course sea salt. They mixed it together well and then they used it to scrub dead skin and dirt from their feet. I've made it and it works great.

The next time you are cooking out on your grill soak sprigs of rosemary in water for several hours and then while your grilling your meat drop sprigs of the water soaked rosemary on the coals and your meat will take on a wonderful rosemary taste. Lamb chops are oh so wonderful cooked this way. Rosemary is just as wonderful sprinkled on leg of lamb while it is cooking. Rosemary baked chicken is really wonderful also.

You Can Use Rosemary For Culinary Or Medicinal Purposes.

Rosemary really is one of the best herbs you can use. It is great when used for culinary use or when used for medicinal purposes. I grow my own rosemary and here in North Carolina it is usually available for use year round. Plant your rosemary in good soil with plenty of room to grow and you'll end up with great big rosemary plants as big as shrubs. You can easily cut off 6-8 inch sprigs of rosemary and pull the bottom leaves off and stick it into the ground. In no time at all you'll have new rosemary plants that you can use or grow in pots to sell or give away as gifts.
