Include Fish in your diet at least twice a week. And try it steamed with fresh herbs and spices in the water you are using to steam it with. If you want to live a healthy life style you should consider buying a wok with a bamboo steamer or a steamer with at least two separate baskets so you can steam fish and vegetables both at the same time.

You should teach yourself to cook with and use egg whites for your cooking rather than whole eggs. It will take some practice but you can make a delicious omelet from egg whites. Try making your egg white omelet with stir fried green bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions. If you really think you need it you can add low fat shredded cheese or low fat sour creme in the omelet. Or fry out lean bacon very crisp and drain well. Add a strip of crisp crumbled bacon to each egg white omelet. I like to cook my fresh sliced mushrooms, sliced onion and green bell peppers in olive oil until they are done and then add them to my egg white omelets. You can sprinkle the vegetables with ground sea salt and black pepper while they are cooking.

One very important thing that it took me a long time to learn was that in order to get your cholesterol in check or lose weight you have to retrain yourself as far as your cooking and eating habits. Until you can do this you will never be successful.

So maybe people have always been right when they told you that a apple an day keeps the doctor away. We all need fiber and by eating a cup and a half of oatmeal you'll be getting a full six grams of fiber. If you like you can add items like apples or bananas and you'll have more fiber. You can prepare your chicken thighs and go ahead and grill them up. You can then slice them real thin in strips and use the grilled chicken strips on a salad on a busy day when you don't have a lot of time to cook.
