Its All In How The Hot Dog Is Served

The quality of your hot dog is very important as well as what you serve with your hot dog. In different parts of the United States Hot Dogs are prepared many different ways and on this Hub Page we will explore many of the ways to make a delicious mouth watering hot dog. A few months ago I published a Hub Page with my secret Coney Island Sauce Recipe on it. Click Here for the recipe.

The Coney Island Hot Dog is one of the best hot dogs in the world and it should be made with all beef wieners and the best Coney Island Hot Dog Sauce you can find. Your buns for Coney Island Hot Dogs should be either steamed or grilled to a golden brown after they have been buttered. One of the best Coney Island Hot Dogs I ever tasted had a all beef hot dog, grilled peppers and onions, Coney Island Sauce, and hot cheese whiz. Now that hot dog was one of the best ones I ever ate and believe me I have tried hot dogs all over the world. If I hear about a delicious hot dog I will go out of my way to give it a try. When you make your grilled peppers and onions cut your bell peppers in long strips and cut your onions the same way. Put them on the grill and sprinkle them with powdered garlic, salt, and pepper and grill until done. I grill mine in olive oil.

Besides the Coney Dog one of my other favorites I have found is served from Lucky Dog Hot Dog Stands around New Orleans. Their hot dogs are kosher style all beef hot dogs served on a lightly toasted bun with slightly spicy mustard and grilled onions. No they don't put any chili of any kind on their hot dog but it is a wonderful hot dog that you won't soon forget. You can recreate them at home just be sure to cut your onions in long thin strips and grill them in a little olive oil with garlic, salt and pepper sprinkled on. You want to butter your buns and grill them golden brown. Your all beef wiener should be grilled and cooked until it is brown on all sides. And when you put your hot dog together I think you'll find that you have just made one of the best hot dogs you'll ever taste.

Some people like their hot dogs real simple with just a little mustard or ketchup. In a steamed warm bun they are pretty good this way.

How Do You Like Your Hot Dog?

Some people think a hot dog just has to have sauerkraut but every once in a while I like one southern style with a all beef wiener, a good beef chili, some fine diced raw onions and it has to be topped with a real good southern style slaw. This is how hot dogs are served in the Carolinas and Georgia and they really are delicious. At most of these hot dog places the ketchup, mustard, and often hot pepper sauce are on the table so people can put it on if they want it. In case your wondering the hot pepper sauce here is green cayenne peppers pickled in vinegar and its the hot vinegar pepper sauce that you sprinkle or pour onto your hot dog.

In some parts of the United States the wieners are left on the grill long enough for the outsides to get crisp but stay juicy inside. Then the hot dog is placed on a grilled bun and a real good all beef chili sauce is put on and then grilled peppers and onions and then mustard and ketchup. Some people add hot cheese whiz on top of everything else.

I stopped at one place in northeast Florida and ate a hot dog that was really great. It was a beef hot dog wiener that had been deep fried and it was served on a steamed bun with crumbled crisp bacon, fine shredded lettuce, fine diced tomatoes, and fine chopped sweet onions. I could not believe how very good this hot dog was. I added some yellow mustard to it and it was one of the best hot dogs I have ever eaten. The hot dog was served with very thin batter dipped onion rings that were oh so delicious. They were in fact some of the best onion rings I have ever eaten in my life. The rings were cut very thin and then batter dipped and fried and there was just a hint of cayenne pepper in the batter. Really sweet onions had been used to make the onion rings so you got a taste of sweet one second and a little bit of hot a moment or two later. It was just so good.

Hot Dogs, A Kids Favorite Meal

Most kids love hot dogs. Some like them with the bun and some with out. Try buying some Chinese Sweet And Sour Sauce at your local grocery store and grill your hot dogs and at the same time spread them with the Sweet And Sour Sauce. I would suggest with very young children not even telling them what you put on the hot dogs. Just tell them if anything that its Mom or Dads secret sauce. Serve your special hot dogs on a warm bun with ketchup or mustard. Some kids like to eat the hot dogs with out any bun. If so make a little swirl of mustard and ketchup on the plate and cut the wieners up into little pieces each with a frilled toothpick in it. I guarantee you that kids will love them this way. You'll find your kids begging for more of your hot dogs with your secret sauce.

My favorite is like the photo of the dog on a bun with mustard. I may, on occasion, add some onion when in the gourmet mood! Well done dog hub! Voted up.
