Hot Sauce History-A Lip Smacking, Mouth Watering Story

The hot sauce history is the history of men and women trying to capture the hot sauce market by making the most delicious best tasting hot sauce ever. While many hot sauces are hot not all are made to just be hot. Many are made for their flavor and the flavor it gives to the food it is sprinkled or poured on.

Most people agree that the first hot sauce in the USA can be traced back to a cayenne hot sauce made in Massachusetts in 1807. A man named Colonel White raised the first Tabasco peppers in this country and bottled the first Tabasco Hot Sauce which was a huge hit all over the United States. It wasn't long before cowboys on the trail west were carrying bottles of Tabasco Hot Sauce with them on the cattle drives. And it probably wasn't long before the Tabasco Sauce found its way into Barbecue Sauces and the rest is history.

J. McCollick and Company came out with a new hot sauce in 1860 which was called Bird Pepper Sauce. Poppies Hotter than Hell Hot Sauce came from Louisiana in 1893 and was a huge hit. It is still called for in some Louisiana Barbecue Sauces today.  The Red Hot Creole Hot Sauce came out in 1916. One of the most popular hot sauces Dat'l Do It Sauce from Florida didn't come on the market until 1984 but it is one of the most popular hot sauces ever.

I bet you didn't know that close to 9 million gallons of various hot sauces are sold in the United States each year. You can really say that hot sauce sells like hot cakes. And there are many local hot sauces made in various parts of the United States today.

Did you know that today's Tabasco Hot Sauce is made from Tabasco Peppers, Vinegar and Salt and aged for at least three years in white oak barrels before it is bottled and put on the market. And Tabasco Sauce is on the official menu of the Space Shuttle and the little bottles of hot sauce have made many trips into outer space. The US Military now packages mini bottles of Tabasco Sauce in their MRE's ( Meals Ready To Eat ).

Jalapeno Hot Sauce Recipe

Using this recipe you can make a really delicious mouth watering hot sauce that you can serve at your barbecues for a delicious tasty treat. Try it on deep fried chicken wings for a tasty treat.

1. 2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil.

2. 24 Fresh Jalapeno Peppers Sliced Thin.

3. 2 tablespoons Fresh Minced Garlic.

4. 1 Cup Minced Yellow Onion.

5. 1 Teaspoon Salt.

6. 3 Cups Water.

7. 1 Cup White Vinegar.

Mix all your ingredients together in a large heavy stock pan and bring to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for one hour stirring often. Let cool to room temperature and then pour into your food processor and puree until very smooth. Place in a covered jar and keep in the refrigerator. This hot sauce is excellent served on almost anything.
