72
The red eyed tree frog is one of the more colorful and interesting tree frogs there is. The frog has brilliant red eyes , its green and it has orange feet. It almost looks like something that someone put together instead of a real living creature but it is real and people keep them as pets.
They really are one of the most beautiful species of frog there is. The red eyed tree frog is native to the rain forests of Costa Rica and other parts of central America. Depending on the mood of your red eyed tree frog it can be any where from light brown to brilliant green. And red eyed tree frogs get from 2-3 inches in length.
You need to keep in mind that a red eyed tree frog is much more delicate than a snake would be. If you approach it trying to catch it the red eyed tree frog is going to hop away. Your not going to cuddle a red eyed tree frog but they are a great pet for a terrarium.
Here's a great video telling you how to take care of your red eyed tree frog.
Red eyed tree frogs are insectivores which means they they eat a solid diet of insects. The best thing for you to feed to your red eyed tree frog is crickets. You will need to locate a pet shop or fishing bait store that can supply you with a steady supply of crickets for your red eyed tree frog to eat. You will need to feed your red eyed tree frog about 15 crickets ever two to three days. And the crickets need to be the smallest size available. Most red eyed tree frogs don't do well with large crickets.
You can easily keep a pair of red eyed tree frogs in a 10 gallon aquarium. For every red eyed tree frog you add to a enclosure you need to add 5 gallons to the size of the enclosure. Inside your enclosure you need fake and real plants and ideally a running or falling source of water like in the video above. Your red eyed tree frogs must have humidity and moisture like the rain forests in Costa Rica have. You can not let your red eyed tree frog dry out. You also will need a thermometer in the enclosure.
Non fertilized potting soil 3-4 inches deep will work great in the floor of your red eyed tree frog enclosure. And your red eyed tree frog or frogs will need a shelter where it can hide during the day as red eyed tree frogs are nocturnal. You will need a heat lamp as your red eyed tree frog enclosure will need to be around 78 degrees in the day time and around 70 degrees at night. The humidity in your red eyed tree frog enclosure needs to be around 70 percent at all times.
Your frog or frogs need a little pond where they can soak. Ideally the water fall or little stream should run into this little pond. Your frog or frogs will soak themselves in this little pond. And there must be a secure top on your red eyed tree frog enclosure because your red eyed tree frog will escape if it can at all.
Your red eyed tree frog will need humidity , it will need to be fed crickets and you will need to keep the enclosure clean and the water will especially need to be clean. The humidity in the enclosure is very important so that your frog does not ever dry out.

Great hub man! You should come to my house, there are literally thousands of the little buggers around the place. Between the cicadas and the frogs there is an absolute symphony in the evenings. I have seen a green tree frog catch and eat a mouse, as good as any house cat. Thanks for the fun post Bearclaw
