Haunted Tombstone Arizona

Tombstone has always been known as , " The town that was to tough to die ". And today Tombstone is truly a Historical American Landmark. The town of Tombstone is the best surviving example of 1880's western heritage. There are many old buildings still surviving in the town of Tombstone today. Ed Schieffelin was the founder of the town of Tombstone Arizona. He came to the area where Tombstone now stands looking for silver and though many people told him he was more likely to find his own Tombstone than he was to find silver but Schieffelin did find silver and that is said to be how Tombstone came to get its name.

Tombstone is a town located in Cochise County Arizona. The town was founded in 1879 by Ed Schieffelin. The town was a silver boom town but it is most famous for its gunfighters including Wyatt Earp and the infamous gunfight at the O.K. Corral. By 1881 there were over 1000 people living in Tombstone. At one time during the silver boom that lasted only a few years there were as many as 15.000 people living in Tombstone.

Haunted Tombstone Arizona

If you look at the above photo of Ed Schieffelin there is really no way you could mistake him for someone else and ever since the 1950's people have made the claim that they see Ed walking along the streets of Tombstone and quite often the large sheep dog he owned in life is seen with him. Of course he and the sheep dog have been dead for many years. He is often reported walking down the street in front of the Bird Cage Theater and he does not interact with people so it may well be a residual haunting that people are seeing. Many people at first think they are seeing someone dressed up as a cowboy until they notice that Ed's feet are not really touching the ground. It is reported that if you speak to him he vanishes at once.

You have to keep in mind that Tombstone is home to quite possibly the most infamous graveyard in the United States , " Boot Hill ".Buried at the Boot Hill Cemetery. Many infamous criminals , men who were hanged in Tombstone , and the men who died at the O.K. Corral are all buried at the Boot Hill Cemetery.

In the Bird Cage Theater doors open and close on their own. Shadow people are quite often spotted in and around the Bird Cage Theater. A woman with a beautiful voice is often heard singing but no one can ever find where the singing is actually coming from. Lights go off and on own their own in the Bird Cage Theater and orbs are seen quite often.

Haunted Tombstone Arizona

Boot Hill Cemetery in Tombstone Arizona was once known as the City Cemetery. At least 300 people were buried at the cemetery and at least 205 are known and recorded for history. The three men killed during the famed Gunfight at the O.K. Corral were Billy Clanton, Frank McLaury and Tom McLaury and they are buried at Boot Hill Cemetery.

It is the ghost of Billy Clanton that is most often spotted in and around the area where the gun fight at the O.K. Corral took place. He is often spotted walking along and he has a very angry look on his face. He is said to try to shove people out of his way but being a ghost he really only scares people when he tries to push them. He does try to interact with the people he encounters so his is a intelligent haunting.

It is not really known how many people were legally executed by hanging at Tombstone Arizona. Some people say the figure is some where around 75 while other historians will tell you that 250 men and a few women were hanged at Tombstone Arizona. At the Boot Hill Cemetery people tell of men walking around the cemetery that look like cowboys of olden times and other people report moans , screams , and pleas for help coming from the Boot Hill Cemetery. Other people report orbs of light bouncing around the cemetery and leaving the cemetery and coming back.

Many people who have seen old tin type photos of Doc Holiday claim they have seen him walking along the streets of Tombstone. He is often seen with a woman who may in fact be the ghost of his infamous girlfriend Kate. They have been known to wave at people and some people have even claimed Doc Holiday has talked to them so this is also a intelligent haunting.

Some people have claimed to see a very old Chinese man in the area of Boot Hill Cemetery walking along. It is believed that quite a huge number of Chinese and Jewish immigrants are buried at Boot Hill Cemetery.

I visited the bird cage theater last august during a thunderstorm as I walked thru the theater snapping pictures it felt like I was being choked and ran for the exit. After about 5 or 6 steps it quit and I could breath again.
