Ghost Hunting 101

Have you ever heard bumps in the night or strange and unusual voices, screams, laughter etc. Have you ever walked into a room and felt like you walked into a cold spot. Just maybe you feel like you saw someone move out of the corner of your eye even though the rational side of your brain tells you that there is no one there. Maybe just maybe what you are encountering is a ghost. Yes a ghost. But before you go running down your street screaming lets talk a bit about those ghostly encounters and what they mean.

A ghost or spirit is believed to be the soul or spirit of a person who has stayed on earth after their death quite often because they feel strongly that they have unfinished business left to do here on earth. Most people who investigate and study spirits and the paranormal agree that there are two different types of haunting's. The most common form of haunting's is a residual haunting. A residual haunting is a event that plays over and over. Most spirits in a residual haunting can not contact you or interact with you. You can think of a residual haunting as a short movie that simply plays over and over.

The second form of haunting is a classic haunting by a spirit or spirits. This type of ghost lets you know that it has intelligence and interacts with you. It is not at all uncommon in a classic haunting for objects to be moved around, lights to be turned off and on, to hear voices where there should be none, to feel like someone is touching you or to even feel like someone has shoved you. Ghosts in a classic haunting often act almost exactly the same as they did when they were living breathing human beings. In this type of haunting you also may smell flowers, cooking smells, the smell of cigarette smoke or etc.

If you think a house or location is haunted try to find out everything possible about the history of the house or location. What type of events or deaths occurred in the house or location. was their a tragic event that happened in the house or the location. Also be sure to carefully investigate the ghost history of the location. Have other people reported a ghost or other paranormal activity in the same location.

This story is something right out of a Stephen King novel. The old cemetery on Boundary Street in Newberry SC will give you the creeps especially if you see it on a full moon night. Orbs streak around the cemetery and strange mumbling sounds and even the sound of a horse pulling a wagon on gravel are often heard. The fact is that at one time the cemetery was much larger and that part of the cemetery was destroyed in the early 1960's and the Boundary Street Elementary School was built on top of part of the old cemetery. Their are peoples graves under the schools ball field.

Over the years many people who later grew up to be adults tell the story of a woman dressed in black ordering people out of the schools ball field telling them to stop playing ball in a cemetery. Most people say the lady is dressed in black and when you study her to close she vanishes.

Other people over the years have claimed to see a horse drawn hearse with a casket in the horse drawn hearse. The horse drawn hearse is often seen just before dark after a thunderstorm. It is also seen when snow is falling. Often people have heard the sound of a horse pulling a wagon over gravel but they didn't see anything.

A girl in a wedding dress is often seen there in the cemetery. She is often seen setting near her grave site crying. If you approach her or try to speak to her she vanishes. There are graves in the cemetery dating back to the 1700's and revolutionary era soldiers have been seen in the cemetery. The spookiest thing is that many people have claimed to hear a baby crying and have often called police to report that a baby is crying in the cemetery but no baby can be found.
