America's Love Affair With Hot Dogs

America has had a long love affair with hot dogs dating back to the late 1800's and as the years have gone by hot dogs have become more and more popular in the United States. Hotdogs can be barbecued, boiled, braised, grilled, broiled, fried, roasted, or steamed and I'm sure I've missed a few ways. Hot Dogs or wieners can also be cut up and added to other dishes.

Hot Dogs are a good source of protein, some vitamins of the B group, thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin. They are also a fair source of calcium and iron and most important of all kids love them.

Hot Dogs, Mac And Cheese, And English Peas.

You can make this delicious dish with either regular elbow macaroni noodles or macaroni shells. Kids love both. This is a really easy recipe to make and I have yet to feed it to kids that didn't like it. To make this recipe you will need.

Ingredients

1. One Box Kraft Elbow Or Shell Macaroni And Cheese Sauce.

2. One 1 Pound Package Hot Dog Wieners.

3. One Fourth Cup English Or June Peas.

4. One Tablespoon Vegetable Oil.

5. One Small Package Dry Taco Seasoning.

Instructions

Here were going to be sneaky and jazz up the hot dog wieners which will add some flavor to the hot dogs and the completed dish. Cut your hot dog wieners up into small bite size pieces and fry them in the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat until you see the pieces of hot dog wieners start to brown. Then sprinkle them with the dry taco seasoning. Continue to fry and stir until the hot dog wieners are browned and coated with the taco seasoning.

Make your box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (TM) by the package directions and put it into a large bowl. Now put the cooked hot dog wieners in and your one fourth cup of English Peas. Mix everything up together well. I bet you your kids will eat this one. If you know they won't eat the English Peas leave them out. I've fixed this dish for adults and kids and they all loved it.

Bacon Wrapped Coney Dog With Cheese Fries

First of all I'm going to tell you where to find the best recipe for Classic Coney Island Chili Sauce.

Just click that link and you'll have the best recipe for Classic Coney Island Chili Sauce that you've ever tasted. Yes it really is that good.

I love to make this recipe for kids because their eyes always lite up when you carry it to the table. And it's not that hard to make and it's something new that not everyone else is doing. You can buy your favorite brand of hot dogs and wrap each hot dog with a strip of bacon and secure it with a toothpick. Your going to remove the toothpicks before you serve the hot dogs. I suggest you click the link and make the Classic Coney Island Chili Sauce because it's the best you'll ever taste. I keep it simple when I make these hot dogs. I steam the buns in their bag in the microwave to get the buns warm and then I put the hot dogs together.

Then I put the grilled hot dog wiener on the steamed bun and I then put a ladle of the Coney Island Chili Sauce on top of the hot dog. I cook the french fries and put them on the plate beside the hot dog and put the below cheese sauce on them. The below cheese sauce is also real easy to make. Some kids and adults also want the cheese sauce on their hot dogs also.

Easy Cheese Sauce.

1. One Can Campbells (TM) Cheddar Cheese Soup.

2. One Third Cup Whole Milk.

Mix the two together while whisking it with a wire whisk and bring it almost to a boil. Your Easy Cheese Sauce is now made and ready to use.

Busy Day Meal Ideals

This is one of my favorite meals and it can be put together in just a few minutes time. I often will cook extra bacon wrapped hot dogs and freeze them for use on a busy day. Remove the toothpick from each hot dog before you freeze it.

You can buy french fries that are ready for the microwave and if you'll follow the instructions on the back of the box they turn out perfect every time and make perfect cheese fries.

You can make the cheese sauce in just a few minutes and you can freeze little cartons of the Coney Island Sauce so you can have the whole delicious meal ready on a busy day in just a few minutes.

Wild West Hot Dogs

Here's a recipe I named Wild West Hot Dogs. It's basically a pasta dish with hot dogs and kids love it. I use the recipe for the Cheddar Cheese Sauce from above and I stir a cup of the cheese sauce up with the pasta. In the recipe here we used rotini pasta but you can use your favorite pasta. Bow-tie pasta has also been a big hit for me and kids love it.

Ingredients For Your Wild West Hot Dogs

1. One 1 Pound Package of Pasta cooked by package directions and well drained.

2. One Cup Of Cheddar Cheese Sauce.

3. One Medium Onion Diced Fine.

4. One Tablespoon Vegetable Oil.

5. One Pound Of Hotdog Wieners Cut In Small Pieces.

6. One Two Ounce Jar Red Pimentos drained well.

7. One Tablespoon Chili Powder.

8. One Half Cup Celery diced very fine.

9. One Large Can Whole Kernel Corn well drained. ( Optional )

You want to start by making your one pound of pasta by the package directions. Put your tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet and then add your onions, fine diced celery, and the cut up hotdog wieners, and the drained red pimentos. Cook the items until your onion and celery is soft and the cut up hot dog wieners are brown. Sprinkle the tablespoon of chili powder into the hot dog mixture and now your going to need a large bowl.

To that bowl add the pasta and the cup of cheese sauce and your hot dog mixture. Stir the mixture to mix well and you'll have a delicious kid friendly pasta dish that kids will love. When I cook it I tell the kids that it's Old West Hot Dogs just like the cowboys used to eat way back when. You may have to leave the onions out for some kids. If you do consider using a large can of well drained whole kernel corn in place of the onions. Or you can add the drained whole kernel corn and the onions to if you like. It really is a delicious dish and its really quick and easy to make and kid friendly.

More Tips And Recipes For Hot Dogs

I love this sauce and everyone I've ever made it for says it's the best sauce they have ever tasted. Its also easy to make.

Ingredients Needed For Chili Barbecue Sauce

1. Two Medium Sweet Onion diced up very fine.

2. Two Green Bell Peppers seeded and diced up very fine.

3. Two Thirds Cup Of Sweet Pickle Relish.

4. One Half Cup Apple Cider Vinegar.

5. One Fourth Cup Brown Sugar.

6. One Tablespoon Mustard.

7. One Teaspoon Hot Sauce.

Combine all your ingredients. Simmer in a covered saucepan for about 15 minutes stirring frequently. You want to cook until the onions and peppers get done and the sauce comes together. This recipe makes about three cups of the sauce and its delicious on hot dogs.

Boil Hot Dogs

You can place a pound of hot dog wieners in a sauce pan and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about five minutes for perfect heated hot dogs.

Fried Hot Dogs Anyone

My Mom and me both have always fried hot dogs and anyone I have ever made them for has loved them. I usually split the hotdogs I fry almost all the way through and then I fry them in a little oil until they are done. I will tell you that kids love fried hotdogs. Cut these up in scrambled eggs and top with the cheese sauce from above and almost everyone including the kids will love them.

Warning About Hot Dogs

Keep in mind that theirs all kinds of things you can do with hot dogs. If a child is under the age of two always cut their hot dogs up in small pieces because of the choking hazard.
