Best Ever Apple Pie
Whats The Best Ever Apple Pie Recipe
Do you know the answer to that question. For me its my Grandma's Green Apple Pie. I remember begging my Grandmother to make me a apple pie as soon as you could see the little green apples on the tree. And though I've tried over the years to recreate the taste of Grandma's Green Apple Pie I have never been able to recreate the taste exactly but the below recipe comes about as close as I can get.
For your green apple pie you should choose Granny Smith Apples as they have a absolutely wonderful taste. In fact the best tasting apple pies on earth are made from Granny Smith Apples. And in the below recipe I have used the Granny Smith Apples for the below apple pie recipe which I have cooked in restaurants all over the southern USA. In 1999 I won the first place prize at the Miami Food Show for this pie. So follow along with the recipe and instructions and before you know it you'll have the best tasting apple pie you will ever taste.
Apple Pie Recipe
You will want two ready made Pillsbury Pie Crusts for your apple pie. You will not find or be able to make from scratch a better tasting pie crust than Pillsbury Pie Crusts. They are just simply wonderful and so easy to work with.
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
Now for your pie filling you will want to take 8 Granny Smith Apples and peel and core them. Cut your apples up into 1/2 inch slices and toss in a bowl with a tablespoon of lemon juice. Now to your apples you will want to add 1 cup of white granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Now add in 1 level teaspoon table salt. Stir all your ingredients up together well.
Now you will want to spray a 9 inch pie pan with vegetable cooking spray and place one of your pie crusts into the pan and press the crust down in the bottom and the sides of the pan. Take a knife and trim away the excess crust around the top of the pie pan.
Now pour your apple mixture into the pie pan on top of the pie crust you have in the pie pan.
Take the other pie crust and lay it out flat. Cut strips of pie crust to try to make the top of your pie look like the picture of the pie in the above photo. You can brush your top crust with egg white and then sprinkle with sugar.
Now you will need to do this in two cooking steps.
Place your uncooked apple pie in the center of the preheated 425 degree oven and bake for 25 minutes until the top crust is golden brown. Reduce your oven temperature to 375 degrees and bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes. Cool at room temperature for approx 4 hours to almost room temperature before you slice and serve.
And you have just made what I consider to be one of the best apple pies you will ever eat. If you make my recipe for apple pie post a comment below and let us know how it turned out for you.
