How To Make Bechamel Sauce

Bechamel is a basic white sauce that can be used as a base sauce for many other sauces. If you will follow the simple recipe below for bechamel sauce you will find that yes you can make bechamel sauce. And if you can make bechamel sauce your well on your way to making all kinds of other delicious sauces.

Bechamel has its roots in French Cuisine where it is one of the five mother sauces.

In order to make your own bechamel sauce you will need.

1. 1 Cup Real Butter.

2. 1 Cup All Purpose Plain Flour.

3. 12 Cups Whole Milk.

4. 2 Teaspoons Ground Sea Salt.

5. 2 Teaspoons White Pepper.

You will want your butter to soften to room temperature. In a large skillet add your butter and over low heat melt it and then a little at a time add in your flour stirring almost constantly. You do not want your flour to brown so your going to need to keep your heat on low.

Allow your flour to cook in the butter but you do not want it to brown. If it does you will have to start over or you will not have a great bechamel sauce. Set aside as soon as you see you have the flour cooked up into the butter removing the large skillet from the heat completely.

Now in a large stock pot you want to add your milk and heat it until almost boiling but not quite. You do not want your milk to stick to the pots sides or bottom. Turn your stock pot down to the lowest simmer and now start to stir your cooked flour into the hot milk. Use a wire whisk so you do not end up with any lumps in your bechamel sauce. Once you have all your flour worked into your milk keep it on low simmer and now add in your salt and pepper.

And you have now made a delicious bechamel sauce that you can use in a lot of other delicious recipes like the ones below.

Chicken Alfredo Recipe

Here's a quick and easy recipe for Chicken Alfredo that everyone is sure to love. And once you have your bechamel sauce made it really is a easy dish that everyone seems to love.

For Your Chicken Alfredo You Will Need.

1. 2 Cups Bechamel Sauce.

2. 1 Tablespoon Minced Fresh Garlic.

3. 1/2 Cup Sauteed Button Mushrooms Cut Up In Thin Slices.

4. 1/4 Cup Fresh Grated Parmesan Cheese.

5. 2 Cups Chicken Cut Up In Small Cubes And Sauteed In Olive Oil And Salt And Pepper.

6. 1 Pound Linguine Pasta Cooked , Washed And Drained.

You will want to sauté your chicken in olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. Let me tell you something about chicken. Did you know that you can use skinned , boned chicken thighs in recipes like this and your dish will be delicious and you will be saving money also. Chicken thighs are about one third the cost of chicken breast.

Sauté your sliced button mushrooms in a tablespoon of olive oil and salt and pepper to taste.

Add your 2 cups of bechamel sauce to a small pot and bring almost to a boil but not quite. If it is to thick add a small amount of heavy cream and add your Parmesan Cheese and the minced garlic.Stir well and remove from the heat.

Cook your pasta and when it is done put it in a colander and wash it very well with running hot water.

In order to serve your Chicken Alfredo place a generous serving of noodles on your plate and add a ladle of your Bechamel Sauce with the fresh grated Parmesan Cheese cooked in it. Sprinkle on a large tablespoon of your sauteed button mushrooms and then about 1/4 cup of your cooked chicken. Garnish with lemon slices and fresh chopped parsley. This really is one of my favorite all time pasta dishes.

Different Versions Of This Same Dish.

You can use various meats in this dish for a wide variety of tasty treats that you , your family and guests will love and enjoy.

Use These In Place Of The Chicken In This Recipe.

1. Large Peeled And Deveined Shrimp.

2. A Can Of Baby Clams.

3. A Can Of Baby Shrimp.

4. A Can Of Crab Meat , be sure to check for bits of crab shell.

5. Sliced Portebello Mushrooms.

You will want to sauté any of these in a bit of butter and you will want to add salt , pepper , and maybe ground cayenne pepper if you like a bit of fire in your dish. I like to garnish my Alfredo Shrimp with lemon zest and fresh chopped parsley.

Special Sauce I Like To Make

I like to mix Bechamel Sauce and Marinara Sauce half and half and add a teaspoon of cayenne pepper to it and mix everything up together. I end up with a sauce that is so delicious on grilled chicken and paste.
