Bass Fishing 101

Every smart bass fisherman who has been fishing for a while has his or her own bass fishing techniques that just has to catch that large bass. And it doesn't matter if you fish for a hobby or for a living you have to be constantly looking for that hottest new lure or that just perfect rod or reel. You have to continuously be trying to educate yourself on that hot new ideal for catching that big bass.

As you spend more and more time becoming a great bass fisherman you will learn what lures work best and what time of the day that particular lure will work best. You need to learn which bass lure will work best with what weather conditions.

In order to catch bass you have to be where they are and you have to present them with a bait or lure that they will be interested in. Remember a hungry bass will also respond to a sound or sounds. Ask around on particular lakes as to what lure or lures work best on that lake and test out the suggestions your given. The best thing you can remember is if they aren't biting slow down. And make sure your using the right bass lure.

During the Spring time position your boat in shallow water and cast to deep water. In the Fall position your boat in deep water and cast to shallow water. And learn your lake well. I really suggest that your bass boat at least be equipped with a depth finder. At the very least you need to know how deep the water your fishing in is so that you can be sure that your fishing at the right depth.

When the bass stop biting in the day time and the days heat up its a good ideal to go to night fishing for the bass. If your lake water is at 65 degrees or over in the day time you will do much better night fishing for bass. As the summer gets hotter the bass will almost always stay deep so your going to need to try fishing at twenty feet or some where around that depth.

Unless you are fishing with a bass lure that is supposed to make noise practice getting your bass lure into the water as quite as possible. Cast beyond where you think the bass are and pull your lure back through where you think the bass are.

As in anything else practice makes perfect. Practice your casting technique so that you will be able to put your bass lure into the water exactly where you want it. As soon as you get your casting technique down you will quickly find that your catching more bass.

You will need to learn that your best casting technique will be with your wrist and not your arm or shoulder. You want to make sure that you do not over fill your reel with line or this will effect your casting technique. Some things to remember are.

1. Stick to basic dark jig colors in almost all lakes.

2. When your casting always concentrate on where you want your bass lure to land.

3. If you think its a strike always reel in tight before you try to set the hook.

4. In order to catch bass you must know the lake your fishing in. And what the bass like to feed on. You need to present a lure similar to the bait the bass is feeding on and you will become a successful bass fisherman.

5. Always keep in mind that every bass you catch can reveal clues on how to catch another.

6. If you fish a lake often make notes on when the bass bite best and what lure they hit the best. You will find that patterns will develop and you will often catch a bass in almost the same position in the lake where you caught one last time.

7. If your taking your bass home always examine your bass's stomachs to see what they were feeding on and make notes so you will remember.

If you don't catch bass in one part of the lake switch to a different location. Is the wind a factor. If so consider a different lure. Check your water temperatures often and if the water temperature is at 65 or above fish deep or consider night bass fishing.

Are you using a lure that matches up with the lake , the time of year , and does it look like something the bass may be feeding on. Know your lake. If you don't ask around and try to talk to other fisherman on the same lake or in the same area and ask them what they are catching bass on.

If you try everything and you still catch no bass maybe they just aren't biting that day and you'll have better luck if you try on a different day. You can still always practice your casting technique for when the big bass are biting.
