Rome has been in existence for over twenty five hundred years making it one of the oldest cities in the world. Rome was at one time the capital city of the Roman Empire. Rome is the eleventh most visited city in the world and the most visited and most popular city in Italy.

You have not lived until you have walked just after the sun has gone down through the streets of Rome. The old cobblestone streets are so beautiful and as you walk along you'll smell wonderful smells of evening meals being cooked and from every where will come the sounds of Rome.

Two Must See Locations In Rome

Two things that you'll want to be sure to see while your in Rome are the Coliseum and the Vatican Museum. These are two of the most visited tourist attractions in the world.

However Romes early history is shrouded in legend. Archeologists have found evidence of humans living in the area of Rome for over 14.000 years. It is said that the city of Rome was built on seven hills and there is even a legend that the city of Rome was founded by Romulus and Remus who were suckled by a female wolf when they were infant twins.

While your in Rome you'll want to be sure to visit the older sections of Rome with beautiful plazas, beautiful churches, and wonderful laid back Italian dinning that will have you never wanting to leave Rome. Be sure that you also visit the old Jewish Ghetto neighborhoods.

And you don't want to go to Rome with out a visit to the Vatican because you have to see and walk around the Vatican and breathe in all the wonderful historical atmosphere around you. You won't believe until your standing there how very beautiful the relics, old buildings, and museums of the Vatican are. Catholicism, was first founded here in Rome and now the Vatican is the center of Roman Catholics and the Pope rules the Catholic Church worldwide from the Vatican.

Rome is also known as the Eternal City and it was once the capital city of the Roman Empire and in case you don't know the Roman Empire once reached from Brittan to Mesopotamia. Rome today has three million people living in the city of Rome with another six million living around the outskirts of Rome.

How To Save Money In Rome

If your going to be staying in Rome for at least three days consider purchasing a Rome Pass which will get you into two museums or similar attractions for free , you can use it for full access to public transportation excluding taxis, and you can use it to get all kinds of discounts and etc.

Don't Try To Drive In Rome

While you may be tempted to rent a car and drive around Rome I would strongly advise against it because driving in Rome can be chaotic at best and life threatening at worse. Believe it or not but people will often rent a car in Rome only to park it a few minutes later and refuse to drive it any further. Trying to drive in Rome can be a life changing scary experience.

Book Your Accommodations Before You Come To Rome

You should book your hotel, motel, or short stay apartment before you come to Rome through your local travel agent or on the internet. But be sure what your going to have to pay and be aware of any fees you'll have to pay before you'll be allowed access to your accommodations. One thing you'll want to avoid are key fees that your told will be refunded when you return the key or keys but then when you try to return the keys your told your key fees will be mailed to you and you never receive anything or you receive a letter saying you damaged a rug or something similar and your key fee was used to pay for the damage. I have seen key fees as high as 75 dollars U.S. so beware.

The History Of Rome

Rome was once the capital city of the Roman Empire and it has existed since 753 BC. The Roman Empire practically took over the world and it is from Rome that the Roman Empire was ruled. It was in the middle ages that Rome grew as a cultural and artistic city. As you walk the streets of Rome think about the famous and infamous people who have walked the cobblestone streets of Rome. One of the must see attractions in Rome is the Colosseum. Gladiators once fought battles to the death with each other in the Colosseum and people were fed to live lions. It is believed that at one time they could flood the floor of the Colosseum and fight mock sea battles there. While your there in Rome be sure you see the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. I guarantee you that you will be over whelmed by what you see here.

Shopping In Rome

If shopping is your thing then Rome is a wise choice for a vacation destination. In the streets of Rome you will see all kinds of designer items being sold at bargain basement prices. Be sure to check out street vendors and the flea market just be sure that what you are being offered for sale is real.
