A Complete Guide To Feeding Your Bearded Dragon

Bearded Dragons eat a wide variety of fruits , vegetables , and insects so you should find it easy to come up with something your bearded dragon will eat and enjoy. But you don't want to forget that they need good nutrition. You need to be aware of what you are feeding your dragon and if it will meet its nutrition needs.

Be sure that you offer your bearded dragon greens. You will find that collard greens are usually the most popular. Other greens can also be fed to your bearded dragon but you should not use lettuce. While lettuce is not harmful it really contains no nutritional value so you don't want to use lettuce. Another green to be avoided is spinach. You could give an adult bearded dragon small amounts but I would not as it contains oxalic acid in large amounts. So avoid spinach also. I would suggest thoroughly washing any greens fed to your bearded dragon under cold running water.

And you will want to feed your bearded dragon a wide variety of vegetables and they can be fresh or frozen. I would suggest fresh when ever possible. You will find that your bearded dragon will like zucchini , peas , beans , and pumpkin best of all. You can use flowers like daisy's , dandelions , and fruits like apples , and berries as a treat. One warning I will give you here is know that no pesticides or weed killers have been used on anything you give to your bearded dragon.

You will also need to provide your bearded dragon with a good source of proteins and this can be in the form of crickets , meal worms , and roaches. Crickets are more healthy for your bearded dragon as meal worms are high in fat. So meal worms should be used as more as a treat. Only feed your bearded dragon what they will eat in 15 minutes. Watch your bearded dragons weight carefully and while you want it to grow you don't want it to become to fat. If you see it gaining a lot of weight fast cut back on its food.

You will also want to dust your bearded dragon with a calcium supplement about every second day. You can also dust your crickets with the calcium supplement before you feed them to the bearded dragon. You will also want to provide your bearded dragon with plenty of fresh clean water. I give my bearded dragons bottled water because I don't want to risk giving them city water full of chemicals. I don't drink or cook with it so why would I give it to my pets to drink.

They really are quite interesting reptiles to keep and I always suggest learning everything you can before bringing any animal or reptile home. Know its needs before you are surprised.
